Business Interruption Insurance
A major insured loss can affect much more than physical property. Business interruption insurance may help protect insured gross profit, revenue, rent or additional costs of working after certain insured events. Suitable sums insured and indemnity periods are important considerations when arranging this cover.
Points to check
- What policy trigger is required? It is often insured property damage; pandemic or other non-damage interruption must not be assumed to be covered.
- Check the policy definition of insured gross profit: it can differ from ordinary accounting profit.
- Review the indemnity period, supplier/customer dependencies, approvals and reinstatement delays against a realistic recovery plan.
Key considerations
- Insured income
- Additional costs
- Indemnity periods
- Key dependencies
